OUR MODEL
We champion the Family Home Model, which allows children to experience all the benefits of a regular foster family, along with the benefits of a professional organization. Here's what makes us unique:
1. A Family Model employs house parents rather than rotating supervisors.
It is a requirement that each of our facilities be operated by well qualified house parents. This means a married husband and wife who live in the group home and treat the children as they would family. Apart from being paid, these house parents enjoy the perk of free or subsidized accommodation. Unlike regular foster parents, they will be employees of our organization, and as such will be required to maintain the standards of quality required by AZDCS for group care.
2. Smaller numbers
Many of the issues children face in group homes arise simply from the high volume of children. In the family home model, we enforce a maximum of 5 children per home. The data shows that children are simply better able to have their needs met under such conditions.
3. Family Activities and Rituals
It is part of our program to have daily, weekly, and monthly family activities. On a daily basis, house parents will sit down and eat dinner with all children, as well as gather everyone for morning and evening devotional (participation optional). On a weekly basis, house parents will schedule meaningful one-on-one time with each child according to his or her needs/preferences. Each weekend, there will be a planned outing or recreational activity, and each month there will be at least one "larger" planned activity that kids can look forward to.
By adhering to these three guiding factors, and cultivating an atmosphere of love and discipline, displaced children will be in a better position to thrive.
OTHER INFORMATION
In order to mitigate burnout, Everhaven directors will take children for up to several hours once each week, giving house parents a break.
Currently, we provide services for children ages 6-12
