A Different Approach to Group Care

We champion the House Parent model, allowing displaced children to experience group care as they would in a foster family. Here are some of the ways our program shines:

1. invested House Parents

Our homes are led by qualified, trained, trauma-informed house parents. Like foster parents, house parents live in the group home and treat the children as if they are their own. Unlike typical foster parents, they are held to additional standards of group care as required by AZDCS, and will receive ongoing training and support from Haven Family Homes staff.

2. Smaller numbers

Many of the issues children face in group homes arise simply from high volume. With the house-parent model, we enforce a maximum of 5 children per home. Studies show that it is easier for children to have their needs met under these conditions.

3. MORE Family Activities

House parents and children take part in daily family activities, such as family meals, family prayer (optional), bedtime stories, etc. Families also have regular outings and recreational activities, such as going to the park, the movies, the zoo, and shopping to let children use their allowance, among others.

4. Birthdays & HOLIDAYS

Children in our care receive special, personalized birthdays and many unique, fun opportunities during holidays and summer breaks, which house parents can also enjoy.

5. LIFE SKILLS TRAINING

In addition, children receive daily tutoring, help with homework, and basic life skills training such as cooking, chores, and tracking allowance expenditures.
